Hi,
as promised, here’s the first review about a product that didn’t work like expected. If you considered getting an AccountNow card, read this!
Granted, the AccountNow sign-up page looks promising. But did you know that you have to pay $9.95 monthly and $15.95 just to close your account?
The following is a review by C. Channing that I wanted to share with you:
AccountNow is a prepaid debit card I found on creditcards.com. They specialize mainly with people wanting a second chance with a checking account, but my main purpose for using it was as an alternative to loading it with my PayPal payments, so I wouldn’t have to give PayPal my personal bank account information.
Since they don’t perform credit checks, the application was simple: name, mailing address, and email. I was instantly approved and received my Account Now card ten days later. I read through the policy guidelines and noticed they had a monthly fee which could be avoided by direct deposit. I called the eight hundred number and activated my card; I include the card’s checking number and routing number to my PayPal account so I could do direct deposit. After PayPal transferred the money on to my card, I noticed I was down ten dollars; I got upset so I went to their website to see what was going on. After logging in, I noticed they deducted the ten dollar monthly fee, even after I did a direct deposit. Because they charge you to call their customer service, I sent them an email explaining my situation and how I wanted my ten dollars back. They told me they couldn’t refund my money because the direct deposit came after I activated the card and if I want to cancel the card it would COST ME fifteen dollars – crooks.
Suffice it to say, they never refunded my money and I never gave them fifteen dollars. I thought about sending them five dollars for the cancellation fee because they already had my ten dollars. Even though I don’t use the card anymore, they still charge me ten dollars every month until recently. I guess they got the hint and figured I was not worth the energy – same here.
My experience with Account Now prepaid card was a horrendous one. They took money from me and then wanted more money to discontinue my use of the card. They tack on all these high and unsuspecting fees – what company really charges their customers for calling and asking for help? It was ridiculous and outrageous. I would never apply for anything with the name Account Now. They are a complete rip-off and I warn anyone against applying for a debit card with them.
A harsh review. But C. Channing found a better alternative: The Vision Premier prepaid card:
After my horrible ordeal with AccountNow, I decided to give the whole prepaid debit card another try because I still was not comfortable with putting my real bank information on PayPal. I went to creditcards.com again and found a card more interesting in terms of fees. The Vision Premier Prepaid debit card is a prepaid card whose motto is low fees or none at all.
I was redirected to Vision Premier Prepaid card site and the application was the same as before: name, mailing address, and email. Again, I would have to wait ten days until I received my new prepaid card, but it was worth it. Once I received my card, I made sure to read over all the cardholder policies and to deposit money before activating the card.
I transferred my money from PayPal and this time I was happy with the results; no fees and none of my money was missing. I didn’t want to go to a local load place because they would charge me at the very least five dollars to load; therefore, I opted the PayPal route and I got to load my money on the card with no fees. The best part about Vision Premier prepaid card is they have it set up where I can transfer my money from the card to my bank account securely. I feel both comfortable and safe transferring the money from the prepaid card to my bank account.
My overall experience with Vision Premier prepaid card has been a great one. I don’t have to pay outrageous monthly fees or “secret” fees. My money is always safely transferred from PayPal, to the Vision Premier card, and to my bank. I’ve never been charged to load money on my card and the company makes me feel secure as a customer. They get a high approval rating from me and I would definitely recommend Vision Premier prepaid card to anyone who doesn’t feel comfortable putting their personal bank information on PayPal or just want a prepaid card in general.
